Dr. Zeljko Matijevic - Waiting For The Soul

Dr. Zeljko Matijevic

Waiting For The Soul

Dr. Zeljko Matijevic is a Jungian analyst and physician.  Born in Zagreb, Croatia, he was educated there, in Germany and in Switzerland.  While specializing in internal medicine in Germany, he became interested in psychosomatic medicine and consequently studied at the Jung Institute in Zurich.  Since moving to Canada in 1989, he has maintained an analytic practice in Calgary.  In addition to lecturing on topics concerning our relationship to the unconscious, he leads study groups in analytical psychology and gives workshops on dreams, myths and fairy tales.

Lecture: Friday 23rd April, 2010, 7.30 p.m.
Parkdale United Church, 2919 8th Avenue NW, Calgary

How often have you heard someone say, “I want to do something for my spiritual side”? In 1928, C.G. Jung looked at this very question, writing an essay entitled “The Spiritual Problem of Modern Man.” Eighty years later, we ask ourselves how we are coming along with this problem. My talk this evening will explore contemporary concerns related to our search for the spiritual side. In particular, I will focus on the relation between soul and
spirit. Often, we see them as the same or too similar to bother differentiating, but, if we do this, we are missing important distinctions. Tonight, as we explore how soul work and spiritual work are different from one another -- yet connected -- we will begin to see why we have to wait for the soul, and why this waiting is important for each of us.
