The Hestia Archetype

Pearl Mindell

THE HESTIA ARCHETYPE

Hestia, the ancient Greek goddess, becomes a guide in our troubled times. Hestia's image is the hearthfire at the centre of the personal home and at the community centre; the place where people gather, eat, warm themselves and speak together.

Psychologically and spiritually, Hesita represents the small, inner flame at our core; an image of what Jung called the “Self”.

For the ancient Greeks, Hesita was the quality and energy of hospitality. No stranger or wayfarer was barred from being able to enter and warm themselves at Hestia's hearth, no matter how alien or strange they seemed.

We will discuss these Hestian qualities in light of today's world turbulence and conflict and see what Hestian energy has to offer us in our collective and personal lives.
