Lecture: The Dragon Archetype & Individuation

Dr. Zeljko Matijevic

Lecture: March 19, 2004 - The Dragon Archetype and the Individuation Process: Dragons of the Past and Present

Dragons and Myths

Dragons were involved in the creation myths. They were involved in the gods’ wars. They have accompanied humankind from our very beginnings. Hiding in the water when they are young or in caves and mountains when they are old; are they hiding, keeping to themselves, or are they waiting to take us captive? What is your personal image of the dragon? What is your personal experience of dragon energy, dragon influence or dragon interference? How can we understand dragon symbolism in our contemporary culture? In this lecture we will explore where we stand today in relation to this ancient creature – as a symbol, as a product of our imagination, as a representative of our inner reality.
